Agroforestry project on the Wiesenhof farm in Wakendorf

The Wiesenhof is a combination of a farm as a place of learning, child and youth work/help, organic farming, agriculture and life on the farm. The statutes of the non-profit Wiesenhof Initiative include the promotion of nature conservation and landscape conservation and the promotion of animal welfare. Various climate protection and sustainability projects have already been carried out with children and families.

The system, planted on approx. 6.5 ha, consists of a diverse plant selection of around 300 woody plants in order to test many different crops in combination:

  • Walnut small-crowned
  • Pekan
  • Almond
  • Apple
  • Pear
  • Cacimony
  • Medlar
  • Quince
  • Hazelnut
  • Jujube
  • Peach
  • Fig
  • Plum
  • Mayberry
  • Blueberry

The planting took place in December 2023 and a person from the Triebwerk planning office was also present to provide support and advice. The majority of the trees have grown well. There were large-scale failures in the almonds, but these are being replaced by the supplier.
The plan is to grow vegetables, oil crops and cereals on the remaining arable land. The area will also be used to grow fodder for the open-air poultry.

The trees are arranged in such a way that they will provide excellent wind protection. The strips of trees and hedges strengthen the biodiversity of the area.
