Clean energy and healthy cooking — life-changing for everyone involved

Due to poverty, many children in Uganda suffer from malnutrition, which impairs their physical and mental growth and, consequently, their learning ability and educational level. For years, 22STARS has been committed to providing healthy food and a functional learning environment—with noticeable improvements in the children’s health and learning ability. So far, so good—but two problems remain a cause for concern. Frequent power outages disrupt lessons. The heavy smoke produced by burning charcoal in kitchens is extremely harmful to health. In addition, deforestation is being massively promoted, even though Uganda has abundant renewable energy resources.

And this is where the cooperation between 22STARS and DSUS begins! Together with 22STARS, we install PV systems with backup batteries and solar-powered ovens with integrated ventilation systems. The PV systems ensure a reliable, sustainable energy supply and enable continuous learning. The new solar ovens are made of fireproof material, provide thermal insulation, and have a ventilation system that reduces smoke to a minimum. This promotes efficient food preparation, a healthy cooking environment, and healthy food for cooks, staff, and children on site.
