They have been growing vegetables, fruit, herbs and flowers there for several years now, which are then sold regionally. After travelling from Berlin, a short tour of the site was organised. Afterwards, all participants were able to get to know each other better over a lunchtime snack.
After that, it was time to get to work. First there was a short introduction, then the individual work steps were defined and distributed. Clara and Axel installed the support posts for an entire row of trees, while the other groups planted the young trees in the prepared holes and attached them to the support posts. The work also included protective measures against rabbits, roe deer and voles. In addition, coir mulch mats were used to suppress overgrowth in the first few years. Furthermore, the necessary soil cultivation measures were carried out. Overall, the entire planting campaign was very exciting.
Previously the hectare of arable land was affected by drought and heat stress, with signs of erosion occurring despite the slight slope. Now an agroforestry system is growing with various chestnut trees, which will increase soil fertility, provide shade, cool the area and protect it from erosion.
