Together for Our Health and Habitats
We advocate for children who have never been in the forest or walked barefoot by giving them time in nature. Additionally, we support regenerative and sustainable agriculture that is resilient against drought and pests. Join us and let’s stand together for our children and a livable world!
Draußenzeit
Once a month, elementary school children in Berlin can experience and explore nature under the guidance of wilderness mentors through movement and trust-building games.

Agroforestry (AF)
Here, trees, hedges, and flower strips are planted on farmland, combining agriculture with nature conservation.

For Us and Our Children

Nature Experiences for Children
“At first, I thought I couldn’t do it, and then I just balanced across the whole tree.”
(Quote from a Berlin elementary school child during “Outdoor Time”)
In an increasingly digital world, our connection to nature is fading. Some children from our partner schools have never been in a forest, some have never walked barefoot on grass. Others are afraid to touch a branch or refuse to sit on the ground because it’s “dirty.”
During regular, supervised excursions into nature, these children flourish. They have fun, enjoy the freedom, run around, and overcome challenges that once seemed impossible—like balancing on a tree trunk. For many, this is a completely new experience, helping them to connect not only with nature but also with themselves.

Agroforestry Projects
50% of Germany’s land area is used for agriculture, while organic farming accounted for only 11.2% in 2023.
A large portion of conventional farmland is poisoned with pesticides. Soils are on the brink of collapse. Water is scarce, and increasing droughts are worsening the situation for farms. Insects and other small animals have long disappeared from our fields.
Agroforestry* offers a way out of this crisis. Unfortunately, public subsidies are far too low, and the costs of planting and maintenance are often very high. That’s why, in collaboration with the planning office Triebwerk, we support the implementation of agroforestry plantings on farms across Germany.

What We Do
Agroforestry Projects
In supporting agroforestry systems, we focus on bio-certified farms in Germany with less than 100 hectares of agricultural land, which are linked to a non-profit organization. Sometimes, farms practicing regenerative agriculture cannot afford an organic certification. In such cases, funding may still be provided. The foundation allocates financial resources for trees, hedges, and planting work, while the farms typically contribute their own share through logistics and labor.

Outdoor Time for Primary School Children in Berlin
The “Outdoor Time” project aims to connect urban children with nature through regular trips to green spaces, sparking their curiosity through playful nature experiences and fun moments. The monthly outings are guided by certified wilderness mentors. Our goal is for children to develop a love for nature, spending time outdoors willingly and on their own initiative. Additionally, physical activity in the fresh air is healthy and promotes the children’s mental and physical well-being.

Tree Nursery on Cape Verde
In addition to our main projects on agroforestry and outdoor time, the foundation also supports tree planting on the African island of Cape Verde. For this, we maintain a partnership with the NGO Delta Cultura.

Our work for nature
Trees and fields united: agroforestry as the future of agriculture!
The Daniel Schlegel Umweltstiftung promotes agroforestry as an innovative model for sustainable agriculture. We combine ecology and yield to create a better future for all.

Connection with nature for children and teenagers: wilderness tracking and more
The foundation places great emphasis on environmental education projects in Berlin and other German cities. Projects such as wilderness tracking and the “Moabit Climate and Education Week” help children and young people gain a deeper insight into nature that they often miss in big cities.

Donations go 100% into projects: Daniel Schlegel Umweltstiftung
Your support is crucial. Even small donations like 20 € can protect 500 square meters of rainforest in the Peru project. You can donate to a specific project or to the foundation in general. Importantly, the donations go directly to the projects, while administration and operations are financed from the foundation’s assets.
